yesterday when my brother (who i knew was coming to visit) and i went to the stinking rose to mee his friend nick fair, who lives in la but i had yet to meet... my whole family was there instead! payback for thanksgiving. unfortunately because i didn't know they were coming i didn't take any time off of work... so i'm working doubles all the days they are here. eeeek tonight i have to quick try to get some of these shifts covered!

scrambles and i went to the pasadena flea market yesterday and i actually didn't buy anything! well, i mean besides beer and garlic fries. it was so delightful to have a day off, even tho i spent the whole thing (less pasadena) drinking beer and watching movies. which is a-ok with me..... it's my prefferred method of relaxing after hanging out at the beach or something, but we had already spent enough time in the sun at the market.
i was pleased. good day. i had no desire to see i am legend at all but i watched it last night after finding out mike patton does the voice of the creature things. badass! well... see fo' yo'self
and this.... but be forewarned this clip is the ending of the movie! don't spoil it for yourself if you haven't seen it! granted, you get a pretty good idea of the comparison from the first like 15 seconds of the clip

well.... i have my first really insane sunburn of the year, even tho i put sunscreen on. usually it happens around may so i guess i got it out of the way this year. the trip was AMAZING and yeah... i will yoink the pictures from everyone else once they put them online. we went scrambling up and down some huge boulders so i'm sore as all hell today, not to mention cut up from walking into thronbushes and cactii, and those rocks look so smooth from far away but are actually all shardy, so my hands are a little minced too. totally worth it tho..... amazing trip. more on that later, now i have to gingerly shower my red red skin and wash the campfire smoke smell out of my dreadlocks before working the stiffest walking double of the year

...cause my standard has been she's like the wind. with an interpretive dance involed. and then i sing the duet at the end with myself, with two mics. its fun, and funny, but now i will feel bad doing it. so i need a new karaoke song.
dammit! she's like the wind is my favorite EVER.
in other news, its been a looooooooong week. i had food poisoning, found out they sold my house, my cat took 5 stitches to the throat. they are coming to replace the carpets today so i am up early to move furniture/get the cat to boarding cause she and her stitches can't be around for that. ugh. i want the month to be over. i want it to be april and warm and gorgeous.

awake sooooo early... going to go to runyon canyon and hike before my double! i'm sure i will be absolutely wiped out by the end of the day, but i have all of tomorrow off, so....
while i'm quite sure that this movie is going to be 55 shades of absolutely terrible, i am going to go see it anyway because alllllllll of the charachters have dreads.

...most of the time spent cleaning my room is spent slowly untangling the yarn scattered about my floor from the clothes scattered about my floor, and then carefully re-winding it into balls. i know within the month all of the yarn will have found its way completely unwound and tangled on the floor away. you think i would have found myself a better storage situation for the stuff by now. and everytime i do this i ask myself why i own so much frigging yarn, and yet i keep buying more. the stuff is addictive. that and, i love knitting.

i made popcorn on the stovetop 2 nights ago for the first time in my life.
i was more than pleased with it! i'd only ever had air-popped or microwave stuff before, less movie popcorn. i'm a little obsessed.
new mike doughty cd is officially released today. i got mine on pre-sale and where the hell is it grrrrrrrrr i wanted it to magically appear on my doorstep at midnight.

they sell dunkin donuts coffee in bags in target now..... and while it's not quite the same, i make do and everything is fine
california-style pizza kind of gives me the creeps but nagila and mulberry street both dish up a mean thin crust..... and while it's not quite the same as camillo's or italy's, i make do
i can't get taylor ham any further west than pennsylvania but if you deep-freeze one of the 5 pound rolls it'll stay cold for a good 10 hours, so whenever anyone visits me, that's whatmy #1 request is that they bring me. i just ration it out to myself over like 2 months, which is probably for the best anyway since it's so godawful unhealthy for you
i can't get toby dogs anywhere but home in new jersey. i'm not the buggest fan of nathan's, carney's or pink's so i pretty much just don't eat hot dogs in LA unless i happen to be drunk enough and at 7-11 to think it's a good idea. same thing went when i lived in new york tho, i would just gorge myself on them when i went home. this one i'm ok with too; when i go home i eat enough of them that i couldn't actuall bring myself to do it again for at least another month without feeling sick from the smell.
however.....
THERE ARE NO GOOD BAGELS HERE. and i want a nice fat toasted chocolate chip bagel with butter sooooooooooooooo badly right now. NOW NOW NOW. the bagels at coffee bean are always stale, and the onl time i ever went to noah's they didn't have blueberry or chocolate chip wtf?! that is unacceptable! i miss going into the bagel shop on 347 on the way to another boring shift at ruby tuesday (i miss ruby tuesday as well btw, the only salad bar out here is souplantation, which is great, but not the same) and shelling out like 8 bucks for a huge bag of warm soft squishy bagels and fresh made cream cheese. and everyone would attack them when you got there, because if it was your turn to get bagels you were pretty much everyone's hero that day.
i bring donuts to color me mine every once in awhile but it's not the same. a good bagel can be made into something appropriate for every meal.
on the flip side, it's february and i got a text to come lay outside at the pool at the roosevelt hotel. the west coast will always win that war.
