i am soooooooooo getting up at 6 am for free denny's tomorrow... there is one like, 3 blocks from my hizz and we walk there alllll the time (amount of beer that we've had is directly proportionate to the likeliness we will end up at denny's) so it's not like it's a haley's comet type occurance, but i'm just sayin'. free grand slams. shit man, that's what i get all the time anyway. and then i'll be up nice and early to start my bike ride to spanish kitchen so i can do their chalkboard illustration all early and what-have-you, so i can spend the rest of the day packinnnnn cause we are mooovinnnnn

| portfolio blog |
[15 Jan 2009|08:35pm] |
i started a blog for portfolio pictures and general shop stuff..... if you guys wanna see some of the other stuff i've painted / jewelry / whatever, you should go to it hahahhahaha
http://gabizoidal.blogspot.com/
i've been doing lots of dog bowls lately! i really like doing them... it's easier and more fun to paint dogs than it is kids, and you wouldn't let your three year old eat from a $150 bowl, but some reason people don't seem to see a problem with letting their dog do just that. i heard back from one of the people, and she said she uses hers for water and it looks like he is kissing himself in the face! which is about the cutest thing i've ever heard in my life.

[05 Nov 2008|03:59pm] |
...shot.
applied for this and i haven't heard back from them yet-- should by the weekend-- but every waking moment is spent trying to beef up my etsy shop in case they haven't seen it yet. i'm trying to go the positive thinking route, acting like it's already been decided and i'm in it and its mine, blah blah blah, but i don't know if it's going to work, or if its going to just build me up for like... some sort of earth shattering disappointment if i don't get in. either way, its stress, but good stress, i enjoy making this stuff.
dan and i found a milk crate of old encyclopedias sitting on the sidewalk walking back to our place a few weeks ago. seriously. this is what i use to make this stuff? and someone was throwing it out? wtf? serendipity? maybe? 4 christmas eves ago, we found a complete world book encyclopedia set from the 60s while we were dumpster diving behind a strip mall in pennsylvania (i know, weird situation) and my parents had a set they had inherited from my grandparents when they moved to fl, that had been discarded from a church library. all the stuff headed for the dump, all of it in my possession. i've been holding onto these books for years, the pictures in them too hilarious to let go of. now, i'm doing something with them. we got some more books and magazines from the thrift store, and some garage sales, some from the free section on craigslist (i love the curb watch. you're throwing that out? no no no, i'll take it)
i dunno.... i'm all nervous about this stupid show, and consistently overcaffeinated to the point of shaking. angelina made me come over 2 nights ago because she told me that i NEEDED a break from all nighters of mod podging, laquering and cutting. and photo taking and listing.
on the plus side, dan got me a button maker for my birthday, so all the scrappy bits that are no good for bracelets and light switches and magnets can have a home. best... present.. ever. he knows me too well
ok, rant over. back to it.

[25 Sep 2008|09:44pm] |
totally dyeing my dreadlocks + extentions right now. full-on hair update with pictures afterwords but in short.... i put extentions on my shoulder-ish-length dreads to make them boob-ish-length, but the extentions were fall colors... red, orange, brown, and far too bright for me, so we're going 100% brown. extra bonus tho, is that i can use the leftover red ones to make my downstairs neighbor scott some fakey dreads for his halloween costume, as i drunkenly promised him:

edit: omg i looooove it! it looks so good and does a really fabulous job of making the extentions look like my real hair.... when before, it was pretty freakin obvious where mine ended and the fake stuff started. it also roughed up the fake stuff to sufficiently look like dreadlocked hair (it was a little poofy before that)... i am so immensely pleased with these results. and now.. if only it would dry... wet dreads= heeeaaaavvyyyy dreads....

| day of the dead skull, part 2 |
[23 Sep 2008|12:49am] |
here are some fairly dark pictures of said skull taken in my poorly lit kitchen at night.. the piece is yet unfired, so ignore the grayness of the skull/pencil sketches and smudgies, and remember the colors will get brighter after firing... ie, that pink around the nose will be "fire engine" red, the gray eyebrows=black, and so on... this type of under-paint needs 3 coats, in theory, to be a solid coat, and some colors i did 4 knowing how they ect; some 2 because i was tiiiiired and doing the whole thing with a tiny brush... lets hope the cheating doesn't show, and that the firing brings out the fades as well as i hope. ok, enough rambling... boring, boring, boring.

| day of the dead skull |
[22 Sep 2008|01:20pm] |
last night i started painting a day of the dead skull sample for the halloween display at work. i got carried away and ended up spending like 7 hours on this goddamn thing, and it's absolutely the most ridiculously complicated project i've painted that wasn't a custom order, and it's so frigging detailed. i'm totally proud of it (even tho its blatantly me showing off) and i'm not sure i can part with it for the store (tho i'm also pretty sure it would likely net me some custom jobs and that is well worth the time investment)..... it looks AWESOME now but you know, you never can tell how these things will look until you fire them up. lots of small brushwork. no squezetubing, which probably would have shaved at least an hour off the time but would not have looked as good, in my opinion...
i gotta take a picture of this thing before and after it gets fired, just in case it fires funny (i painted on a cracked piece and if it busts in the kiln i will cryyyyyyyyy)

| ewwwwww |
[05 Sep 2008|11:32pm] |
i can hear the cat throwing up in the front lawn right now. ewwwwwwww.... you can teach cats to poop in the toilet, but can you teach them to hack their hairballs up there?
so glad she's doing that outside tho.... gross.

| GROSS |
[02 Sep 2008|03:21am] |
i wore angela's shoes on the hikind trip figuring... they are too small by like an EIGHTH of a size and wtf? its only 3 days.. well it was like 12 miles a day and the last 3/4 of the third day it hurt like a mofo going downhill but i just sucked it up and did it.. and when we got bot to the car i had a smattering of black toenails wtf! i chalked it up to bruising (which it was) and figured it would go away eventually (which it did..... mostly) but now i have 2 gross, black toenails ready to fall off.... like, lift it up, only joined at the base ew wtf is this shit? ready to fall off.
what do i do? i mean.... ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! its so gross. and you can tell my inexperience as a more-than-2-hours-at-a-clip hiker but seriously. ew. should i cut it off now? or should i let it go at its own pace? it hurts less now since i have been walking around so much on it daily but mostly it just grosses me out. like, how am i going to walk around in my work sneakers with 8 nails? the last time anything like this happened it was 2 nails literally severed in an instant in a stage accident (it sounds so silly) so... quicker = better i think. becuase this is dumb and it grosses me out. not even that its falling off but the idea of my naked toes rubbing around the inside of my skitty gross gnarly work sanuks.... ew! and sanuks are the most comfy shoes made in the hidtory of ever!
i dunno. i dunno. i dunno. if anyone has any idea thats cool. my dad painted a lost nail's skin with nail polish once, when i was a kid, i remember--- just to give it some kind of coating; and i seem to keep getting that advice. it just freaks me out to be able to look under it.
ew! ew! ew! ew! ew! ew! ew! ewwwwwwwwwwww! ....rad. i'm such a badass.

| i can be a total lush and go out every night, or.... |
[30 Aug 2008|12:38am] |
stay in every night of my life. it comes in waves. right now... my roomate is out at the bar with friends. i was invited.. nah, staying in tonight. but it's friday. yeah man.. i know.
my downstairs neighbors? bangin' party. i can hear it. whenever they have one, we usually kinda just... walk down the stairs (i live in a duplex, not an apartment or anything) to the porch we share and just join in. totally cool. nope... not tonight. chilling in the upstairs all alone.
just.. sewing myself a reusable lunchbag out of scrap fabric from a pair of green linen overalls i started but never finished. seriously. i got the idea in the late evening and have been kind of excited about it since then. like, after i dropped dan off at work it's immediatly what i started doing when i got home. hopefully i will finish it tonight! then i can take my lunch in it tomorrow.
it's a little janky.... i don't really have a pattern. but i know how to sew, and i know how to construct patterns, i just.. you know, the only requirement is that my tupperware fits in it. so i just measured some rectangles and i'm sewing them together. listening to pandora.
dude, this night is totally a success. and it's also kind of motivating me to finish those overalls (it wasn't the assembly of the overalls that was the problem, it was that i wanted to embroider pale yellow and dark brown peacocks on the front pocket... that shit takes forever!)

| we went hiking! in sequoia!!! |
[13 Aug 2008|09:20pm] |
34ish miles, total, over 3 days. i was sho' sooooore... but look what awesome pictures we got! these are just some.

( a-hiking we will gooooo! )
i also went to the children's hospital prom....the next night..... all bug-bitten, slightly sunburnt and completely sore and exhausted... with one of our regular customers from the shop. fred came too, but since he's a regular mountain man, he wasn't bug-bitten, burnt, or sore. either way, pretty hilarious to go from stinky filthy mountain beast to dressed up and getting my picture taken in a giant throne at a charity fundraiser prom in less than 24 hours! best week in pictures, ever.
( way more fun than any high school prom! )

[14 Apr 2008|10:53am] |
scrambles and i went to the pasadena flea market yesterday and i actually didn't buy anything! well, i mean besides beer and garlic fries. it was so delightful to have a day off, even tho i spent the whole thing (less pasadena) drinking beer and watching movies. which is a-ok with me..... it's my prefferred method of relaxing after hanging out at the beach or something, but we had already spent enough time in the sun at the market.
i was pleased. good day. i had no desire to see i am legend at all but i watched it last night after finding out mike patton does the voice of the creature things. badass! well... see fo' yo'self
and this.... but be forewarned this clip is the ending of the movie! don't spoil it for yourself if you haven't seen it! granted, you get a pretty good idea of the comparison from the first like 15 seconds of the clip
blows my mind that he can make such noises from his person. and just for good measure:
